In Autumn 2023, OrchLab worked with groups from Oak View (Look Ahead Care Support & Housing) and Bradbury Court (Livability) on a project inspired by Concerto for Orchestra by Béla Bartók.
Bartók (1881-1945) was a Hungarian composer, and is often considered to be one of the most important composers of the twentieth century, particularly because of the way he collected and analysed Hungarian folk music.
In our OrchLab project, we were inspired by the way Bartók travelled across Hungary, collecting and writing down folk stories and music. We created our own graphic score in the shape of a road, and created and discovered lots of music as we journeyed along! This music reflects the stories of others, and our own stories as well.
As well as taking inspiration from Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, we also performed our own version of ‘With a Little Help from my Friends’ by The Beatles. We really enjoyed making music with Oak View and Bradbury Court throughout 2023, and we hope you enjoy this short film celebrating our Autumn project!
